Névache

Névache is a commune with 357 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Hautes-Alpes department in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur. It belongs to the Local Government Association Briançonnais. After municipality Névache is the largest municipality in the department.

Geography

Névache located in southeastern France in the Valley of Clarée in the Dauphiné Alps between the Italian border in the east, the Ecrin National Park in the southwest and the Vanoise National Park in the north, about 78 kilometers northeast of Gap, the seat of the prefecture of the department and 13, 9 km northwest of the cantonal capital of Briançon, at an average altitude of 2326 meters above sea level. In the municipality there are 24 chapels. 15 of which bear an inscription from the year in which they were built or were mentioned in the archives. Most chapels date from the late 18th century. Four of the chapels are isolated, the others are in inhabited villages or pastures. In the hamlet Foncouverte the chapel Sainte- Marie, who is classified as a monument historique ( historic monument '), it was built in 1627. The chapel Notre- Dame-des- Graces in the hamlet Plampinet also classified as a historical monument.

The Chapel of Saint- Hippolyte is entered in the additional list of Monuments historiques. It was built in the 15th century. Today, it is isolated on the orographic left bank of the Clarée. Originally there was but a hamlet, whose ruins were still visible at the beginning of the 20th century. According to local oral tradition, it is said to have served the residents of the village as a parish church before the church of Saint -Marcellin -Saint -Antoine was built.

The church of Saint -Sébastien in the hamlet Plampinet was built in the 16th century. The sacristy is from the year 1635th The cemetery was established in 1745. The church has been classified as a monument historique.
