New York gubernatorial election, 1804

The gubernatorial election in New York from 1804 took place in April 1804, where the governor and the vice governor of New York were elected.

Candidates

For the Clintonian faction in the Democratic Party Republikanen Morgan Lewis came along with John Broome. For the Federalists Aaron Burr joined with Oliver Phelps, said the Tammany Hall fraction belonged to the Democratic- Republican Party. Burr was at the time of selection acting Vice President of the United States and a former member of the aforementioned party.

Result

Aaron Burr made his decisive defeat in the election his longtime rival Alexander Hamilton in charge, who led a smear campaign against him. In a duel on July 11th of that year, Burr mortally wounded Hamilton and was then accused of murder in two states, but was never so in court.
