Niederösch

Niederösch is a municipality in the administrative district of Emmental in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

Niederösch is located on 485 m above sea level. M., 7 km north of the town of Burgdorf (air line). The former road and stream line the village stretches along the Ösch and its left tributary Chänerechbach, on the eastern edge of the broad alluvial plain of the river Emme, on the Swiss Plateau.

The area of ​​4.6 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the central Bernese Mittelland. The western half of the area lies in the flat Emmeebene ( on average 485 m above sea level. M. ) and ranges from intensively farmed Allmendfeld to the edge of the Linde Rains. The eastern part is in the Molassehügelland, which was formed by the glacial Rhone glacier. The communal land extends into the basin of the lower portion of the Chänerechbachs, which on the north side of Tannwald ( 522 m above sea level. M. ) and Hasli (up to 550 m above sea level. M. ), on the south side of the height of the Buechwaldes is flanked. On the Buechwald is 591 m above sea level. M. reached the highest point of Niederösch. From the municipality surface 1997 6 % came from settlements, 26 % of forest and woody plants and 68 % to agriculture.

To Niederösch include some individual farms. Neighboring communities of Niederösch are Koppigen, Alchenstorf, Rumendingen, Oberösch and Utzenstorf.

Population

With 240 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Niederösch one of the small communities of the Canton of Bern. Of the residents 97.1 % are German, 1.4 % French-speaking and 1.0 % speak Italian ( as of 2000). The population of Niederösch amounted in 1850 to 362 residents in 1900 to 346 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population increased by strong emigration by a further 35%. 1960, 303 inhabitants were counted.

Economy

Niederösch was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding have an important place in the economic structure of the population. Some other jobs are in the local retail industry and the services available. Many workers are commuters who work mainly in the region of Burgdorf and in the Solothurn area.

Traffic

The community is conveniently technically quite well developed. It is located just a few hundred meters off the main road from Bern to Zurich 1. The nearest links to the A1 ( Bern- Zurich ) is located approximately 6 km from the town center. By bus the Regional Mittelland AG, which serves the route Koppigen to Burgdorf, Niederösch is connected to the public transport network.

History

The first documentary mention of the place was already 886 under the name Osse; of 1309, the name Oescho is preserved. These two names can not be clearly assigned Niederösch or Oberösch. For the first time between the two towns in 1310 differed ( inferioris Oeschge ); 1360 appears Nidernösch.

In the High Middle Ages Niederösch first belonged to the Kingdom of Upper Burgundy and the royal court of Kirchberg. Later, the village was under the suzerainty of Zaehringen and from the 13th century to that of Kyburg. It was partly owned by the monastery Thornberg. Since 1423 Twing and spell lay in the town of Burgdorf. Under Bernese rule Niederösch the bailiwick cheeks has been assigned. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798 ), the village belonged to the district during the Helvetic Burgdorf and from 1803 to Oberamt hamlet, was given the status of an office district with the new cantonal constitution of 1831.

Attractions

In the old town numerous characteristic farmhouses have survived in the Bernese country style in the 18th and 19th centuries. The mill dates from 1813, the mill floor of 1797. Niederösch does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Kirchberg.
