The Niederwalgern station is a key railway station in central Hesse, south of Marburg. He is the only station of the place and the largest in the municipality of Weimar ( Lahn). He is assigned to the station Category 5 and is served by regional trains in rush hours by individual regional express trains. The station building is a listed building.

History

The station was opened in 1850 to coincide with the Main- Weser Railway. The place Niederwalgern experienced by the rail link a major boom. In the northern train station area, some companies settled in, some of which also were loading their goods by rail. Since the opening of the Aar - Salzböde train in May 1894, the importance of the station took particular passenger to always on. When the Main- Weser Railway was electrified in the 1960s, it also affected the station part of the route to Herborn.

The demise of the station began in the 1980s when we removed the upper line on the western part of the railway station and numerous railway tracks dismantled. In addition, the freight loading has been completely abandoned. 1992 drove the last freight train from Gladenbach into the station and a closure of the Aar - Salzböde train was in sight. In May 1995, the passenger traffic on the eastern part of this route ended despite a positive opinion, the importance of the station fell sharply. Some trains were canceled and the station staff was withdrawn. A possible reactivation of the Aar - Salzböde Railway was the setting of the total traffic on the western section (2001), the total decommissioning (2002 ) and finally the track illegal mining west of Niederwalgern (2006) and more unlikely. Down to the station area in Niederwalgern - - Today the route to Herborn is disassembled, the goods station shut down and the number of motorable tracks has been reduced to three. Also, some freight tracks were dismantled in the northern station area and connecting tracks to Aar - Salzböde train in recent years.

Location

The Niederwalgern railway station is on the northeast edge of the village on the road to Wenkbach. On the western side of the station there is parking and a bus stop. It is the largest public transport hub of the community.

Railway facilities

Reception building

The station building is a brick building from the 19th century. It was divided into a station buffet, which was housed in a separate building and no longer exists, a waiting hall with ticketing and the signal box for the Aar - Salzböde train. In the 1990s, the railway staff was withdrawn from the train station and since then he has been empty. The station building will be forfeited and, although it is a listed building, not maintained.

Tracks

The Niederwalgern station now has three tracks, two of which have a platform. There are also two disused track on the Aar - Salzböde train with the platform. To the north of the passenger station, there are some freight tracks, but all are now closed.

  • Track 1 is how the tracks 2 and 3 on the Main- Weser Railway and the main platform of the station. There, the trains to Gießen and Frankfurt.
  • Track 2 is located on the intermediate platform and is mostly traveled by the trains to Marburg and Treysa.
  • Track 3 is a fast track and is driven on only by passing freight trains and intercity trains. It does not have a platform.
  • The tracks of the Aar - Salzböde track were used by passenger trains. On the platform, which is on the side of the reception building (track 4), drove off most of the trains. The other track (track 5) served only as overtaking and siding for trains that ended already here.

Signal box

The interlocking Nf is located south of the reception building and was exclusively for the Main- Weser Railway. It is built in the shape Sp Dr S 60. The Aar - Salzböde train also had a small layout in the station building. However, this is also no longer used since the cessation of total traffic in 1995.

Service offer

The Niederwalgern station is serviced since 2006 every hour by the Central Hesse Express ( Treysa -Frankfurt Hbf). Before that drove regional trains with a variety of relations. Since December 2010 there is a new type of train, which travels to Frankfurt every two hours from Marburg. The old regional trains 30 ( Marburg - Gießen- Friedberg ) and 40 ( Giessen- Siegen - Dillenburg ) were taken over by HLB. The trains of the Aar - Salzböde train wrong in any fixed clock. They drove between Herborn Niederwalgern, then without intermediate stops further to Marburg and back.

In rush hours, keep in Niederwalgern individual RE trains. This has been preserved from the time when one could transfer to trains to Herborn. In the meantime, however, demanded that these trains stop place in Niederwalgern in more frequented Fronhausen station. This has already been implemented in two types of trains.
