Niels Holst-Sørensen

Niels Holst -Sørensen ( born December 19, 1922 in Sønder Felding, Jutland ) is a Danish former athlete. After his athletic career, he was an officer in the Danish Air Force. From 1977 he was a member of the IOC.

Sporting career

1946 saw the first European Championships after the Second World War, held in Oslo. In the 400 -meter run Niels Holst -Sørensen won in 47.9 s in the 800 - meter race, he was in 1:51,1 minutes second behind the Swede Rune Gustafsson. With the Danish 4-by- 400 - meter relay he finished fourth in 3:15,4 min.

Military career

During his athletic career, Niels Holst -Sørensen was a lieutenant in the Royal Danish Army. In 1950 he joined the Royal Danish Air Force. In 1970, he became Major General and Commander in Chief of the Air Force. From 1982 to 1986 Niels Holst -Sørensen Denmark represented at NATO. In 1987 he was retired.
