Nigel Stock (bishop)

William Nigel Stock ( born January 29, 1950 in Newcastle upon Tyne ) is a British Anglican theologian. He was from 2007 until the end of September 2013 the Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich in the Church of England.

Life

Stock grew up in his native city of Newcastle upon Tyne. He studied theology at St Cuthbert 's Society, the third oldest college of the University of Durham. In preparation for the priesthood, he attended Ripon Hall College Cuddesdon, near Oxford.

In 1976 he was ordained deacon, in 1977 the ordination to the priesthood. His first pastorate he took over from 1976 to 1979 as a vicar ( Curate ) on the St. Peter 's Church in Stockton -on-Tees in the diocese of Durham. From 1979 to 1984 he was pastor ( Priest- in-Charge ) in the parish of St Peter's in Taraka, in the Diocese of Aipo Rongo in Papua New Guinea. From 1985 to 1991 he was pastor (Vicar ) on the St. Mark's Church in Shiremoor in the Diocese of Newcastle. In 1991 he was Dean (Team Rector ) of North Shields, 1992 additional land Dean ( Rural Dean ) of Tynemouth; both offices he held until 1988.
