Nitmiluk-Nationalpark

The Nitmiluk National Park (formerly Katherine Gorge National Park ) is established in 1989, 2921 km ² national park in Australia's Northern Territory management unit, 244 km south-east of Darwin and 32 km north-east of Katherine. In the north of the park is adjacent to the Kakadu National Park.

Part of the park is the Katherine Gorge, one dug from the Katherine River over a period of a billion years in the Arnhem Plateau, 12 km long system of 13 gorges of up to 70 m high sandstone cliffs. The gorges and its surrounding areas have spiritual significance to the Aboriginal people of the Jawoyn. " Nitmiluk " means in the language of the Jawoyn as much as place of Cicada Songlines. The park was returned to the possession of the Jawoyn and is also managed in accordance with their traditional laws of the Parks and Wildlife Commission of the Northern Territory. In the area of the park are still historic rock art to be found.

The Edith Falls, a tall, by a waterfall -fed lake, located on the western border of the park.
