Noli de Castro

Leuterio Noli de Castro ( born July 6, 1949 in Pola, Oriental Mindoro Province) is a Filipino politician and served from 2004 to 2010 Vice President of the Philippines.

Biography

Study and television presenter

After visiting the Pola Central School and the Pola Catholic High School in Oriental Mindoro, he studied from 1967 to 1971 trade, banking and finance at the University of the East.

His professional career began in 1976 as a reporter at radio station RPN dzWW, in which he was then from 1982 to 1986 speaker and moderator. In 1986 he moved to the television station ABS -CBN, where he was one of the first presenters of the show " Good Morning, Philippines". In 1987 he was first host of " Magandang Umaga " and in 1988 by " Overseas Limited ". Between 1986 and February 2001, he was also a speaker ( Anchorman ) of news broadcasts " Kabayan " and " TV Patrol". He was from 1987 to 2001 as host of the newsmagazine " Magadang Gabi Bayan " is particularly popular. Senator and Vice- President

In 2001, he began his political career with the election of a senator.

In 2004 he was elected Vice President of the Republic of the Philippines and is the representative of President Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo during their term of office lasting until May 2010.

De Castro was like Macapagal- Arroyo candidate of the so-called K4 coalition Koalisyon ng Katapatan at Karanasan sa Kinabukasan (Coalition of Truth and Experience for Tomorrow ) and sat down in the election for Vice President with 49.80 of the vote against Senator Loren Legarda through the that for the Coalition of United Filipinos ( Koalisyon ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino, KNP ) of presidential candidate Fernando Poe Jr. took and received 46.90 percent of the vote. Clearly defeated reached Herminio Aquino, the vice presidential candidate of the leader of Democratic Action ( Aksyon Demokratiko ), Senator Raul Roco, only 3.24 percent of the vote, while the fourth-placed Rodolfo Pajo of the Partido Isang Bansa Isang Diwa only 0.06 percent of the vote to be was combined.

In addition to his role as Vice President, he is particularly active in the field of housing and urban development and therefore has also been Minister of Housing and Urban Development ( Secretary of Housing and Urban Development ) in the Cabinet Macapagal- Arroyo. As such, he is also Chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Council ( HUDCC ), the Joint House Development Foundation ( Pag- IBIG Fund), the regulatory body for housing and land use ( Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board, HLURB ), the National Housing Authority ( National Housing Authority, NHA), National mortgage and finance Corporation ( National Home Mortgage finance Corporation ( NHMFC ) and the Social Housing finance Corporation ( Social housing Finance Corporation ( SHFC ) as well as ex-officio Vice-Chairman of the Home assurance Company ( Home Guaranty Corporation ( HGC ).

He is also advisor to the President in matters of Filipino overseas workers, Alternating President of the National Anti- Poverty Commission and responsible Cabinet Member for the Region MIMAROPA, which includes the provinces of Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan.

In the upcoming on 10 May 2010 presidential elections, he was thought to be sitting vice president because of his great popularity as a possible successor to President Macapagal Arroyo.
