Norman Kaye

Norman James Kaye ( born January 17, 1927 in Melbourne, † 28 May, 2007 Sydney ) was an Australian actor and musician.

Life

Norman Kaye was born in Melbourne and attended Geelong Grammar School. His extraordinary musical talent fell to Dr. AE Floyd, the organist of St Paul's Cathedral in Melbourne. He gave Kaye free lessons in organ playing. Kaye traveled to France to study with Pierre Cochereau the organ of Notre Dame de Paris. At the Conservatory of Nice, he won a first prize in conducting.

From 1958 to 1977 Kaye worked as a choir director and music teacher at the Caulfield Grammar School. The safety of his teacher salary enabled him to devote herself to acting.

As an actor, Kaye was initially occupied in supporting roles, as in 1976 and 1979 in Illuminations Kostas of director Paul Cox. Cox occupied Kaye in 1982 as the lead in Lonely Hearts and 1983 in Man of Flowers. Kaye played all his life in a variety of films and television productions. However, he is known for his collaboration with director Paul Cox, who cast him in 16 of his 21 films. 2005 Norman Kaye was the subject of Cox's biopic The Remarkable Mr Kaye, who was intended as a tribute to their long-standing friendship and cooperation. Kaye was also active as a composer of film music.

1997 Kaye Alzheimer's disease has been diagnosed. His inability to remember the text in the 2000 film Innocence incurred, led to the end of cooperation with Cox. When Norman Kaye died in 2007, the opera director Elke Neidhardt stood to the side, with whom he was in a 35 -year relationship with him.
