Northern Neck George Washington Birthplace AVA

Northern Neck George Washington Birthplace AVA ( recognized since 1987) is an American Viticultural Area in the U.S. state of Virginia.

Location

The area is located in the administrative regions Westmoreland County, King George County, Northumberland County, Lancaster County and Richmond County. The protected designation of origin has been recognized by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The vineyard is situated on a peninsula between the Potomac River and the Rappahannock River near the Chesapeake Bay. Due to the marine and location close to the waters of the two rivers there are in the field more frost-free days than the rest of Virginia.
