Örgryte IS

Örgryte IS, officially Örgryte Idrottssällskap, short ÖIS ( ÖIS ), is a Swedish sports club from the Gothenburg district Örgryte who is best known for its football team. Football

History

The club was founded in 1887 and is one of the oldest football clubs in Sweden. Örgryte played his first organized football game in Sweden against IS Lyckans Soldater ( " soldiers of fortune " ) in 1892 and won it 1-0. Many players of that time came from Scotland. Örgryte dominated in the early years of Swedish football and in 1896 the first national champion of Sweden. More titles followed in 1897, 1898, 1899, 1902, 1904, 1905, 1906, 1907, 1909 and 1913. Until 1940 Örgryte was with 14 league titles a fixed size of club football in Sweden, but then the descent initially followed in the second division and later even in the third division, where you should stay until the end of the 50 years before it succeeded with players like Agne Simonsson, Gunnar Gren and Rune Börjesson, climb back into the top flight. Despite many great successes, however, failed to earn more championship titles.

As part of the Football World Cup 1958, which took place in Sweden, Gothenburg teams received a new stadium: The little old Gamla Ullevi was replaced by a new building on a nearby site, which Nya Ullevi. To this day the home games Örgryte and IFK Göteborg are discharged, but only top games such as city derbies or against teams from Stockholm. The best season in the league since 1985, then followed in 2002 as Örgryte was third with Afonso Alves as a star and crowd favorite of the team. Particular highlights were the matches against IFK Gothenburg, which was won with 2:1 and 5:2.

The 2006 season ended with relegation as Table. One of the few highlights of the season was the derby win against IFK Gothenburg 3-2. 2007-2008 played Örgryte in the Superettan, the second division in Sweden. In the meantime, again represented in the Allsvenskan, Örgryte IS rose at the end of the 2009 again in the Superettan. In early 2011 followed by the bankruptcy of relegation to the third division.

After an impressive season in Division 1 Södra the club in 2012 rose to the Superettan.

Background

The club is known as a club of Gothenburg High Society, the popularity of the masses, the club has never been seen since the 50s. He is known for his technical game. In the team there are often Brazilian players because the association is a partnership with the Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro. Örgryte IS struggled for many years with economic problems, especially because the local rivals IFK had moved over time in the foreground. Meanwhile, the men's team was outsourced to a trading under the name Örgryte IS Fotboll AB Company. However, the economic and sporting decline could stop neither the club nor the corporation. In autumn 2007 therefore came up with the idea of ​​a collapsing Örgryte IS, GAIS and BK Hacken. After protests trailers, the idea of ​​a new Gothenburg football club under the name FC Gothia by the club president, however, was quickly withdrawn. 2009 again in the meantime notch the club but did not get relegated again after direct its financial problems under control. On 11 February 2011 the joint stock company finally filed for bankruptcy.

Stadiums

Örgryte IS played first on Balder Hage, before the club moved in 1908 to Valhalla idrottsplats. Later, the club also use the Gamla Ullevi Ullevi as well as a venue for home matches. 2007 returned the club back for his second league games in the Valhalla idrottsplats, as it was at that time started with the renovation of the Gamla Ullevi. After completion of the modernization work, he moved again in 2009 to the Gamla Ullevi.

The attendance record of 52,194 visitors was set up in 1959 in a game against IFK Gothenburg. In Gamla Ullevi this record is 31,597 spectators against IF Elfsborg in 1957.
