GIF Sundsvall

GIF Sundsvall is a Swedish football club based in Sundsvall.

The football club played after the 3rd place in the Superettan 2007 in the 2008 season in the highest Swedish league, Allsvenskan. But only for a season. 15th place meant relegation. The return to the Allsvenskan succeeded in 2011 by the 2nd place in the Superettan reached.

History

The club was as Godtemplarnas Idrotts Förening ( German: Sports Association of Good Templars ) on August 25, established in 1903, but picked up in 1920 his sobriety bid and has since that time the name gymnastics och Idrotts Föreningen Sundsvall ( German: gymnastics and sports association Sundsvall ). The club is to play since the permit for sports clubs from Norrland in the Allsvenskan, very often and staying, played from 1999 to 2005 continuously in the highest Swedish league.

At home, the public record was 16,507 spectators on October 15, 1961 against Högadals IS.

One of the best-known former players of the sports club is Tomas Brolin.

The Hockey section of the club took part in the seasons 1940 and 1942 at the time still in the Cup mode discharged Swedish Championship.
