Infrastructure and use

The airfield has a nearly 1200 meters long paved runway and landing strip that runs from northwest to southeast (14/ 32). There is no parallel to the runway taxiways. To the north, at the landing threshold 14, is the apron with various smaller terminal facilities. The airport is primarily used for general aviation and the local Aero Club. Seasonal and regional commercial air traffic in Oristano was settled. On the airfield a small, responsible for the whole of Sardinia police squadron of the Polizia di Stato is stationed.

History

The airfield Oristano Fenosu emerged in the 1930s as a military airfield. He was complemented his time by lying very close in Santa Giusta water aerodrome for flying boats. During the Second World War in the area of Oristano created yet another military airfields, including at Guspini and Milis. After the war, these facilities were all abandoned. However, the relatively sprawling airfield of Fenosu remained the property of the Italian Air Force. In 1977, she allowed the civilian use by the local air sports club. After the military had withdrawn completely in 1981, began in the 1990s with the support of the province of Oristano with the expansion of the airfield. The existing grass runway was paved and built various terminal facilities. In 1997, the operating company Sogeaor was founded with the intention to open the airfield for commercial air traffic. 2004 an ambitious expansion project was presented, which could be realized in the course only rudimentary. 2010, the commercial regional air traffic was recorded with scheduled flights to Rome and Pisa, in 2011 but reinstated.

The airport is named after the Oristano Nuoro coming, but grew up in Oristano Air Force officer Ernesto Campanelli. He flew in 1925 as Sergeant and airplane mechanic with the aviator Francesco De Pinedo from Italy to Australia and Japan and back again. Later he took part in the long-haul flights Italo Balbo.

  • Southwest of the airfield Oristano, the airspace is expansive locked ( R54/D40 ). There practice by the military airfield Decimomannu coming fighter aircraft dogfights.
