Abbasanta

Abbasanta is a village on the Italian island of Sardinia in the province of Oristano with 2818 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Borders the following municipalities: Ghilarza Norbello, Paulilatino and Santu Lussurgiu.

The village is situated on the plateau Alto Piano di Abbasanta in an agriculturally well-developed area close to the main traffic artery of Sardinia, which extends in a north-south direction motorway-like state road SS 131 and at Abbasanta branching off to the northeast in the direction of Olbia SS 131dir. The village itself is built around the built in Renaissance style church of Santa Cristina.

Its significance from it mainly by three nearby archaeological sites:

  • The giants grave Su Pranu
  • The sacred well of Santa Cristina
  • Losa Nuraghe

In Abbasanta is a training facility of the Polizia di Stato and a small airmobile special unit of the Carabinieri. The local heliports are also used by the Italian fire brigade.
