Samugheo

Samugheo is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 3149 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Oristano in Sardinia. The municipality is situated approximately 30 km east-northeast of Oristano in the Brabaxianna and directly borders the province of Nuoro.

History

The name of the village comes from the Sardinian takeover of St. Michael ( San Michele Italian ). Although the area was already inhabited in ancient times by the Phoenicians and Romans, but the town can first be detected in the records of the judicial district of Arborea.

Economy

Samugheo is a center of Sardinian carpet production. Also, the coat of arms depicts a loom.

Community partnership

Samugheo has since 2011 an intra- Italian partnership with the community Tricarico in the province of Matera.
