Bonarcado

Bonarcado is a town with 1617 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Oristano in Sardinia. It is located southeast of the Monte Ferru, near the nature reserve Monteferru - Sinis.

At the northern end of the village on a small pilgrimage of cabins ( muristenes ) lined square, the church of Santa Maria Condaghe is, once one of the most important churches of the giudicato Arborea. Like the more famous Santa Maria del Regno in Ardara it is completely in dark basalt and trachyte. From the early Tuscan- Lombard construction phase ( 1146/47 consecrated ) the influence of the Cathedral of Santa Giusta three-arched facade with the inserted later Oktogonfenster, and the south wall come to the center laterally attached Campanile and its lower part.

Judge Comita from giudicato Arborea invited his counterparts in 1146 for a conference of Bonarcado to settle a controversy.

Between 1242-68, the extension to the three-aisled cultivation of Campanile up to today's high apse by Arab builders who first acted here in Sardinia took place ( with nose Mudejar arches and pilasters corrugated etc ). In the 19th century the church ( north side, upper tower with a Baroque onion, barrel vault in ) was changed again strong.

Just behind the apse is the tiny Santuario della Madonna di Bonacattu, an important place of pilgrimage. The original Byzantine central building (probably from the 7th century) was changed simultaneously with Santa Maria in Mudejar style. To nose arches, which together form a Moorish Stalaktitenbogen, and Majolikamedaillons find on the facade, including some rare originals of the 13th century ( blue floral pattern and dot border on a light background ).
