Villaurbana

Villaurbana is a Sardinian village with 1710 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Oristano.

Geography

The village lies at the foot of the mountains Grighine Monte and Monte Arci. The latter is 812 m, the highest mountain in Villaurbana and actually an extinct volcanic cone. In the area you can still find remnants of obsidian. The landscape is dominated but rather by gentle hills.

History

The village's name comes from the Latin, meaning Villa Urbis Urban Villa. This was chosen by the Roman inhabitants of "Forum Traiani " today Fordongianus, which found a place in Villaurbana where you could recover from the scourge of malaria. The foundation of the town dates back to Roman times, the proof deliver the remains of a farm road, adjacent to the villages Usellus and Mogorella. The numerous Nuraghe, about 60 in number, but prove even older settlements, even up to the Bronze Age.
