Sedilo

Sedilo ( evtuell of Latin sedulus: hardworking ) is a city in the province of Oristano in Sardinia with 2194 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Sedilo is 288 m s.l.m. and 10 km north-east of Ghilarza on the north bank of the scale in the 1920s, the reservoir Lago Omodeo, the dams the Tirso.

The S'Ardia

The place and the four kilometers outside location, architecturally insignificant, built in its present form until 1789 Sanctuary Sant'Antine ( Santuario di San Constantino ) is every July scene of S'Ardia ( Sa Guardia - the guard ), the most important of the Rider feasts of the island (near the S'Ardia of Pozzomaggiore ). But it is not to be compared with the much larger Palio of Siena, in which it comes to a horse race. In the wild hunt between village and church in Sedilo it applies different colored equestrian styles to bring into his possession. On the following Sunday the S'Ardia of the poor takes place (on foot).

The Feast of Sedilo is attributed to the Byzantine emperor Constantine, although it seems to have more archaic origins, as a menhir ( sard. Perda fitta ) and Baityloi, situated in front of the village church of San Giovanni Battista (John the Baptist ), ( transferred to here ) are also circled. The sanctuary is built high above the Tirso in a compound, which was already used in nuragic time.

Environment

West of the town, the " Zona Archaeological " of ILOI is a cleanly finished giants grave of the younger kind ( the chamber measures 4.7 x 0.8 m), some of Domus de Janas and a Nuraghe.
