Ortwin Runde

Ortwin Runde ( born February 12, 1944 in Elbing / Danzig - West Prussia ) is a German politician ( SPD).

He was from 1988 to 1993 Senator for Labour, Health and Social Affairs, 1993-1997 finance minister from 1997 to 2001 First Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. From 2002 to 2009 Round was a member of the Bundestag.

Life and career

After graduating from college in 1964 studied round sociology and economics in Münster, Hamburg and London and graduated in 1969 in Hamburg as a degree in sociology. In 1970, he joined the public service in the city of Hamburg; since 1978, he was head of the Office of homes and as of 1981 Director of the Office of Social and Rehabilitation.

Party

Round is a member of the SPD since 1968. From 1969 to 1971 he was a member of the State Executive Committee of the Young Socialists in Hamburg and their representatives on the national board of directors of the SPD Hamburg.

From 1976 to 1988 he was a member of the SPD state Board in Hamburg. He was from 1978 to 1983 and deputy chairman from 1983 to 1988 state chairman of the SPD Hamburg.

Member of Parliament

From 1974 until resignation on 31 December 1980 and 1991 to 2001 round was a member of the Hamburg Parliament. Yet his mandate from 1991 to 2001 rested because of the membership of the Senate.

From 2002 to 2009 he was a member of the German Bundestag. He was a member of the board of the SPD parliamentary group. From 2002 to 2005 he was Speaker of the National Group of Hamburg and from January 2006, Vice Chairman of the working group " communal politics " of the SPD parliamentary group.

Ortwin Runde is always drawn as directly elected representative of the constituency Hamburg -Wandsbek in the Bundestag. In the 2005 federal election he reached here 49.6% of the primary vote.

Public offices

On 8 June 1988, he was in the Senate by Henning Voscherau Senator for Labour, Health and Social Affairs. After the parliamentary election in 1993, he was elected on 15 December 1993 to finance senator.

Following the resignation of Henning Voscherau due to the poor performance of the SPD in the 1997 state election round on 12 November 1997 was elected First Mayor and President of the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.

Round was set up on 4 May 2001 for the top candidates for the state election. In the parliamentary election, 2001, the SPD was indeed 36.5 % of the vote clearly strongest faction before the CDU with 26.2 % of the votes, but suffered the GAL significant losses ( -5.3 percentage points), bringing the coalition missed a renewed majority. Instead formed Ole von Beust (CDU), a coalition of CDU, FDP and party law Interstate offensive. Therefore different round on 31 October 2001 from the office.
