Oskari Mantere

Oskari Mantere ( born September 18, 1874 in Hausjärvi; † December 9, 1942 in Helsinki) was a Finnish politician and Prime Minister.

Study and career

The Oscar as the Majamäki born 1889 family changed their surname to " Mantere ". Later, he earned a degree in philosophy. After his studies he obtained his PhD for "Doctor Philosophiae ". From 1924 until his death he was director of the school board.

Political career

He began his political career in 1919 with the election of the Members of the Finnish Parliament. There he represented until 1938, the interests of the liberal National Progressive Party ( CEP ). From November 1922 to January 1924 he was Minister for Social Affairs in the first cabinet of Kyosti Kallio. Later he was to March 1925 Deputy of May 1924 Education Minister in the Cabinet Lauri Ingmans.

22 December 1928 to 16 August 1929, he was Prime Minister of a coalition government from CEP and the National Coalition Party ( KOK ). However, the COC Minister on its own initiative belonged to the Cabinet and were not sent by their party in the Cabinet.

Later he was from December 1932 to October 1936 Education Minister in the cabinet of Toivo Kivimäki. In this role he was also a delegate to the 1933 14th Ordinary Session of the League of Nations in Geneva.
