Packard Executive

Packard Executive Hardtop Model 5677 (1956)

The Packard Executive was the last designed and built in Detroit car model of the Packard -Clipper Division was the U.S. carmaker Studebaker -Packard introduced in 1956. Vehicles introduced in April 1956 should be above the Clipper cars that were not sold under the brand Packard was founded and represent the largest series.

Due to the limited financial capacity of Executive arose from the combination of chassis and tail lights of the Clipper with the front view of the great Packard models. Although the result is called Packard, it does not belong to the great series. The wheelbase of the vehicle is 3099 mm (122 inches) and its V8 engine has a displacement of 5,768 cc and developed 202 kW ( 275 bhp ).

From the outside, the Executive also differs by its two-tone paint from the Clipper. There are two straight parallel strips along the entire chromium side of the vehicle, the upper the of the corresponding clipper. The area between two strips and roof are painted in an alternative color. Rear view including rear lights and interior correspond to the emblems of the Clipper. Clipper and Packard have the same layout of the dashboard, but differ in details - View and switch from Clipper, terms of the instrument panel and emblems from Packard.

The Executive has its own series designation, 5670. It was available as a two-door hardtop coupe (No. 5677 ) and four-door Touring Sedan (No. 5672 ). This made sense only because of the introduction of separate brand Clipper. Thus, the executive became the entry-level model for Packard, thought - according Packard advertising - for the "young man on his way to the top ". Of course, the purpose of this model was mainly to offer on the introduction of the brand Clipper disgruntled traders an alternative Packard. Packard's dwindling market share and the poor financial state of the company made the executive, however, less attractive.

For a member of management has been an Executive hardtop, painted in Jamaican Yellow / Corsican Black, with the 6138 cc ( 374 ci) V8 in the Caribbean (Rochester 4x2 Carburetor, 314 SAE hp, 231 kW ) and manual three-speed transmission delivered. That should have been the fastest Packard this vintage.

The Executive was the only model that Packard introduced during the current model year. Only 2815 units were built in the so- shortened model year, which actually lasted only three months. 1031 of these were hardtop coupes. As the Executive appeared, the Clipper Custom (No. 5660 ) is set.

Closed as Studebaker -Packard, the Packard plant in Detroit in the summer of 1956, the company introduced an all Packard models. When production in the fall of 1956 in South Bend began to pick up for model year 1957, the President of the Studebaker Packard Clipper derived was called.
