Pakila

Pakila ( swedish Baggböle ) is a district ( kaupunginosa ) Helsinki, Finland, with around 9800 inhabitants. The district covers both the Länsi and Itä- Pakila.

Pakila once belonged to the rural community of Helsinki. In the 19th century the village was still exclusively Swedish-speaking. The population was estimated at 40 in the 20th century was gradually Pakila lived in a suburb of Helsinki and in the district from now predominantly poorer populations whereby, after the war, the left-wing socialist SKDL here had a stronghold. In addition, the population increased markedly since Karelian refugees came to Pakila. In the following decades, the district has developed into an area of the middle class and the middle-class conservative National Coalition Party was the strongest force Pakilas.

The writer Martti Larni (1909-1993) was born in Pakila.
