Ullanlinna

Ullanlinna ( swedish Ulrikasborg ) is a branch (Finnish osa - alue ) and a district ( kaupunginosa ) with about 10,000 inhabitants in the Finnish capital Helsinki. It lies between the sub-regions / districts Eira and Kaivopuisto at the southern end of the peninsula on which the center of Helsinki is located. All three areas are among the most prestigious and expensive residential areas of the city. In addition to the sub-region Ullanlinna and the district Ullanlinna whose boundaries are congruent, there is also a city district ( peruspiiri ) of the same name, which covers both the Ullanlinna, Eira, Kaivopuisto, Punavuori, Kaartinkaupunki, Suomenlinna, Munkkisaari and Länsisaaret and thus to about 22,300 population comes.

The name Ullanlinna, which could be transferred with " Ulrikenburg " in German, is due to unrealized remaining fortification maps from the 18th century. The name Ulrika and Ulla refers to the Swedish Queen Ulrike Eleonora ( 1688-1741 ).

To Ullanlinna includes the Tähtitorninmäki, a small hill on which there is a park and a planned by Carl Ludwig Engel Observatory. He is not to be confused with the hill Ullanlinnanmäki that does not belong despite its name to the district official Ullanlinna but to Kaivopuisto and also includes an ancient observatory.
