Vanhakaupunki

Vanhakaupunki ( swedish Gammelstaden ) is a branch (Finnish osa - alue ) and also a district ( kaupunginosa ) of the Finnish capital Helsinki. Literally translated Vanhakaupunki "old town". The name comes from the fact that Helsinki was founded in 1550 at this point. From the original old town is now almost nothing remains. History

On the orders of King Gustav Vasa of Sweden Helsinki (then Helsinki ) founded on June 12, 1550 at the site of the medieval village Koskela ( Forsby ). The early history of Helsinki was under an unlucky star. The actual area (Finnish kaupunginosa ) Vanhakaupunki is only 0.32 km ² in size and has only about 230 inhabitants, and about 850 jobs. A popular destination in Vanhakaupunki is the green area on the coast of the bay, which in 2000 is part of the Natural program Natura European Union.
