The PalaLottomatica is a multi-purpose hall in the south of the Italian capital Rome. It was from 1958-60 to the Summer Olympics in 1960 as Palazzo dello Sport, designed by Marcello Piacentini (architect) and Pier Luigi Nervi ( Civil ) built and was the venue of the boxing and basketball competitions. The hall provides maximum 11,200 seats, for basketball matches are 10,500 spaces available. Its current name was there from the lottery company Lottomatica, which funded the renovation of 1999-2003.
History
On 16 June 1955, Rome won against six competitors for the 1960 Summer Olympics; a year later they started the project. For up to 1960 built, round dome in the EUR district, the architect Marcello Piacentini and the civil engineer Pier Luigi Nervi are responsible. The dome has a diameter of 100 meters. A restaurant with 300 seats and a roof terrace with panoramic views and an area of 2,700 m2 are also available. During the Summer Olympics, the hall was the venue for the basketball and boxing competitions.
From 1983 to 2011, the basketball club Virtus Roma received ( Lega Basket Serie A ) in the Palazzo dello sport almost throughout his opponents to the home games, interrupted only by the time the renovation of the building; since 2011, only the playoffs and Euro League games of the association held here. In addition to games for Virtus Roma the arena served inter alia as a play and Finalort the European Basketball Championship in 1991.
