Palca Municipality

The municipality Palca is a district in the department of La Paz in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location in near space

The municipality Palca is one of five Municipalities of the province of Murillo and is located in the southeastern part of the province. It is bordered on the northwest by the municipality of La Paz, on the west by the municipality of Mecapaca, to the south by the province Loayza, and on the east by the province of Sud Yungas.

The municipality has 80 localities ( Localidades ), the central location of the municipality is Palca with 876 inhabitants in the northwestern part of the municipality. Most populous locality in the municipality is Cohoni with 1,051 inhabitants. (2001)

Geography

The municipality is situated on the edge of the Palca Bolivian Altiplano at an average altitude of 3600 m on the western edge of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Central. The region has a pronounced diurnal climate.

The mean average temperature of the municipality is 10 ° C (see climate chart La Paz ), the monthly average temperatures vary only slightly between 8 ° C in July and 12 ° C in December. The annual precipitation is less than 600 mm, the monthly rainfall range from less than 10 mm during the months of June to August and about 100 mm in January.

The municipality has an area of 743 km ² and at the last census of 2001, a population density of 19.1 inhabitants / km ². The life expectancy of newborns in 2001 was 61.4 years, the infant mortality rate of 7.1 per cent ( 1992) declined to 6.7 percent in 2001.

The literacy rate for those over 19 years is 75.0 percent, and 85.2 percent, although in men and 64.5 percent for women ( 2001).

63.0 percent of the population speak Spanish, 94.1 percent speak Aymara, Quechua and 0.2 percent. (2001)

65.2 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 78.0 percent have no sanitary facilities ( 2001).

65.1 percent of the 3,610 households have a radio, 16.1 percent have a television, 6.2 percent a bicycle, a motorcycle 0.6 percent, 2.7 percent, a car, a refrigerator, 1.1 percent, 0.4 percent a telephone. (2001)
