Systematics and distribution

The family has a disjoint area: home ranges of taxa are located in West Africa and Southeast Asia to New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.

In the family of Pandaceae there are only three genera with 15-28 species. The three genera were formerly in the tribes Galearieae in the subfamily Acalyphoideae within the family of Euphorbiaceae:

  • Galearia inches. & Mor. (including Bennettia R.Br. and Cremostachys Tul. ): The approximately 14 species come from Indochina to the Solomon Islands.
  • Microdesmis Hook.f. ex Hook. (including Tetragyne Miq. ): The approximately eleven species in tropical West Africa and Southeast Asia spread.
  • Panda Pierre ( Syn: Porphyranthus Engl ): it contains only one type: Panda oleosa Pierre: It occurs in tropical west - central and West Africa.
