Papyrus 39

(Referred to Gregory- Aland Sigel 39) Papyrus 39 is an early copy of the Greek New Testament. It is a papyrus manuscript of the Gospel of John contains only the verses from 8.14 to 22. Using palaeography, it has been dated to the 3rd century. It was created by a professional writer with 25 lines per page in big beautiful letters. The pages are numbered.

The Greek text of this codex is a representative of the Alexandrian text-type (or rather a proto- Alexandrian text type). Kurt Aland placed it in Category I. 39 shows similarities with the Codex Vaticanus and 75 It contains no unique interpretations.

Currently he is in the Ambrose Swabey Library at Inv. No. 8864 held in Rochester, New York.
