Pardubice Region

The Pardubice Region ( German: Pardubice region ) is one of the 14 regions of the Czech Republic. The region is located in Bohemia, but also includes historical shares of Moravia. Council is based in Pardubice (Pardubice).

Location

The region has common borders with the Central Bohemian Region, the regions Hradec Králové, Olomouc, Moravia and highlands. In the northeast it borders on Poland ( Glatz ). The natural boundary forms a part of the Eagle Mountains and the westernmost part of the Altvater Mountains. In the south and south-east the hills of Zdarske Hills ( Saarer mountains ) and the Iron Mountains ( the Iron Mountains ) rise. The center of the area occupies the fertile plains of the Elbe valley. The Eagle Mountains, Zdarske Hills and the Iron Mountains are among the protected areas in the region. The highest point is Mount Kralicky Sněžník ( 1,424 m asl), with native vegetation and bogs he was proclaimed a nature reserve. The lowest point is the surface of the river Elbe at Kojice (202 m asl).

Surface

With 4519 km ², the region occupies 5.7% of the total area of the Czech Republic. 44.6 % of the land is used for agriculture, 29.4 % form forests.

Environment

In the circle are still many natural areas, preserved mainly in the sparsely populated mountain slopes. The highest environmental damage can be observed in the vicinity of the industrial area of the district town Pardubice. The main environmental impacts caused by the chemical works ( Paramo ) and the electricity works in Opatovice and Chvaletice. The region is blessed with large water reservoirs with both surface as well as groundwater. Water pollution, especially the Elbe and the Svitavy is rather an exception. One of the largest bodies of water include the reservoir Sečská prehrada in Chrudim, the ponds Bohdanečský rybnik on Opatovický channel and Pastvina at the Divoká Orlice. Demography

The circuit consists of four districts with 452 municipalities and 507,000 inhabitants ( 5% de population of the Czech Republic ). Transport infrastructure

The rail network has a perimeter of 500 kilometers, the most important train connections are the E 040 (Paris -Nuremberg- Prague-Vienna ) and E 061 (Berlin- Prague -Brno- Vienna). The road network is 3581 km long, with first class with 445, second class and third class with 913 with 2223 km length of roads. The most important road connection between Pardubice and Chrudim to Ždírec nad Doubravou. The main objective is the prefabricated highway Praha- Poděbrady to the east. In air transport, the Pardubice airport plays the biggest role with private and military aviation. In water transport are just the navigable part of the river Elbe and the harbor in Pardubice important.

Social institutions

Education

Located in the district are 308 kindergartens with 15,192 children, 231 primary schools ( 45 805 students), 42 specialized secondary schools ( 11,418 students ), 20 high schools ( 7,204 students) and 9 post-secondary technical schools ( 1,705 students ) and 32 vocational schools with 9,712 students. In addition, the university comes in Pardubice with 6 faculties.

Health service

For the health welfare of the population in 1646 doctors care ( one doctor for 299 inhabitants), ten hospitals with 2718 beds, seven specialist institutions with 1262 beds, of which three with 252 beds for the chronically ill. In addition, there are 910 medical practices and 98 pharmacies.

Culture

Famous are the concerts of the Parubicer spring music festival, as well as the Bedřich Smetana Music Festival in Litomyšl as well as the music festival in Polička. Theater there in Pardubice.

Sports

Most famous is the traditional horse race Velka Pardubice, Pardubice. Motor sports fans will meet here at the Dirt Track Motorcycle Racing Golden Helmet. Besides dominated ice hockey and tennis.

Tourism

The favorable climate, beautiful mountain scenery and sports facilities for the summer, winter and equestrian care for a growing number of tourists. Policy

HEJTMAN ( Governor ) of the district since the 2012 elections, the Social Democrat Martin Netolický who took office at the age of 30 years and so is the youngest to date HEJTMAN in Czech history.

In the last elections to the region Parliament, the Social Democrats were 21.31% (or 12 out of 45 seats ), the strongest political force, followed by the KSČM with 18.86 % (11 seats). On the list of electors " Koalice per Pardubice Region " ( Coalition for the Pardubice region ) on which competed among others the candidates of the KDU- CSL, which accounted for 17.74 % and 10 seats. For the bourgeois ODS voted 10.9 % (6 seats), for the conservative TOP 09 voted in 6.25% (3 seats). Also the jump over the 5% hurdle managed with 5.31% ( 3 seats ), the "party of civil rights " SPOZ, which is represented for the first time in a Czech region Parliament. 17.72 % of the votes were cast for parties that failed at the 5 % threshold. The turnout was 39.47 %. In the region Parliament a coalition formed of Social Democrats, the voters list kraj Koalice per Pradubický and the party of civil rights, which occupied the functions of the Council of the Region.
