Paris Métro Line 8

The line 8 of the Paris Métro connects the Balard station in the south- west and Pointe du Lac in the south east of Paris.

History

Line 8 is the last one that was built after the concession of 1898, they should result from the Opéra to Porte d' Auteuil. 1910, a branch to Porte de Sèvres was decided (today Balard ). On this line, there are two types of station; those with metal covering Lung and those in tunnel construction.

The station Opéra, at the intersect three metro lines, has been completely built during the construction of Line 3. The construction work under the bridges Concorde and Invalides required 3 years, because you had to work here in the open tunnel design, the ramps on this piece have gradients of up to 40 ‰ on.

On 13 July 1913, the first section of the line (now Charles Michels ) opened 8 of the Opéra station Beaugrenelle, the latter now belongs to the line 10 On September 30th of the same year, the extension was added to the station Porte d' Auteuil.

The station La Motte- Picquet - Grenelle was from the beginning, built on three dimensions, since there is planned a later branch to Place Balard. South of the station, under the Rue du Commerce, one had both line strains too little space next to each other (street is only 12 feet wide ), we resorted to tracks on 2 floors. Very near the station La Motte- Picquet - Grenelle is closed today Station Champ de Mars. It was closed in 1939 and not reopened after the war; to the short distance of only 100 meters to railway station to justify this. ( A description of the Auteuil - branch can be found here.)

1922, the decision to extend was like: Line 8 should run as parabolic axis of Auteuil on Opera, Republique and Bastille to the Porte Dorée.

On June 30, 1928, the first section of this extension was put into operation, from the Opera east to station Richelieu -Drouot. Here, the structurally very interesting section on which the lines 8 and 9 run over one another begins. This section extends over several stations, at the ( closed today ) Station Saint -Martin are both lines a common level, to then lead into the complex structure République station. This is where five lines (3, 5, 8, 9 and 11).

The station Saint- Martin was immediately closed twice: the first time in 1939 to the outbreak of World War II (1945 re-opened ), the early fifties, again because it is too close to the station Strasbourg Saint - Denis. On May 5, 1931, the extension was taken to the Porte de Charenton in operation.

In 1937 it came to the transformation of the metro network in the south of Paris: On July 27, a new road was put into operation the 8, of La Motte- Picquet - Grenelle to Balard station. The Auteuil - road, however, was beaten to the line 10, the station La Motte- Picquet - Grenelle reached on a new line of Duroc ago.

All other extensions related to the eastern part of the line: October 5, 1942 by Porte de Charenton in Charenton- Ecoles station. In the seventies it went: Charenton- Ecoles - Maisons- Alfort Stade on September 19, 1970, Maisons- Alfort Stade - Les Maisons -Alfort Juilliottes on 27 April 1972, Maisons- Alfort Les Juilliottes - Créteil l' eChat on 26. September 1973 and Créteil l' eChat - Creteil Prefecture on September 10, 1974 On October 8, 2011 the line was extended to a station to Pointe du Lac. .

PCC 1971 was introduced five years later, the automatic train operation. 1975 solved the features of the MF 67 Series from the old Sprague- cars, 1980 saw the addition of those of MF77 series.
