Noctilien

As Noctilien night bus routes are referred to in the Greater Ile- de -France. Night bus service is organized, operated by competent for public transport and transport authorities, the Syndicat des transports d' Île -de -France, they are operated by the RATP and SNCF, and usually have their origin in Paris. They run after closing the Métro and the normal bus routes, about 0:30 to 5:30 clock.

History

Noctambus - the predecessor

The 1987 launched Noctambus network was reorganized in 1997 and eventually consisted of 18 lines. There were ( almost) all radial lines far resulted from the Châtelet as a central starting point up to about 15 km in the surroundings of Paris. Three lines were seen as a branch lines of other routes and only started on the outside. The lines were indicated by capital letters A, B, C, ..., S, T, V, not all letters were awarded.

The new route offered by the Noctilien

The night bus called Noctilien took in the night of 20 September 21, 2005 to his service. The previous night the RATP bus networks ( Noctambus ) and SNCF ( Bus de Nuit ) was combined to form a network, all Noctambus lines - were taken over - partially modified. This allowed the creation of new lines with improved lines of what the expectations of the audience came to meet better.

From the beginning, a success

From the audience the new offering from the beginning has been well received: Within a few months the number of users increased by nearly 50%. In May 2006 there were 560 000 travelers with as much as 65 % more than the same month of the previous year (ie, before the introduction of Noctilien ). Within the first 6 months the Noctilien buses carried 2.6 million passengers. In addition to season tickets (daily, weekly, monthly or annual garden ) and the Single tickets now were ( the so-called ticket t, or his successor, the ticket t ), which can be used also for the Metro, valid. In our previous night bus system Noctambus however, special tickets were prescribed.

2006: The first expansion of the route network

Driven by the success of the reorganization of the night bus traffic, 2006 expansion of the route network has already been decided in the summer that entered the timetable change in December 2006 in force: The RATP offered 5 new lines, 2 of which were awarded for technical reasons to subcontractors. The SNCF added 3 more lines. An existing line was extended

2009: Further optimization of the network

Without introducing new lines, it was end of June 2009 to some changes in the network: on some routes, additional runs were inserted; the lines was partially changed, and in particular stretching portions which are served by two lines: here the line was transferred to previously unserved neighborhoods. Extra long lines or lines with complex layout were split into two lines. On the other hand, there were also some lines to a reduction in the number of trips or for closure of individual stops.

The current network design (2014)

When introducing the Noctilien network there were 35 lines; there since 2009 are 47 lines: There are two ring lines, which cover all the major stations within the urban area of Paris (a line moves clockwise, the other counterclockwise), also 6 diagonal lines which suburbs together and go the station Châtelet approach, and so-called 39 radial lines that start at one of the major train stations and travel far into the countryside beyond. There are more than 200 municipalities in the Ile de France and served a year more than 7 million bus kilometers to be covered.

System of line numbers

The name of the 47 lines follows clear and unambiguous rules of nomenclature. The line numbers are 2 - or 3 - digit number. The three -digit route numbers start with a 1: This indicates that the bus also goes to the suburbs further away. These buses are operated by the SNCF. The tens digit of the line number shall represent the starting point of the line in Paris.

The statistics for 2009 shows, moreover, that on weekdays, on average, every night 19 000 passengers use the Noctilien buses, on the nights before the weekend or on weekends and public holidays 31 000 users were counted on average. On special days (eg Sylvester or Fête de la Musique ) 40 000 passengers are traveling. During the week, 157 vehicles are in use, the weekend there are 224

In 2012, the Noctilien network consisted of 47 lines, 31 are managed by the RATP, and 16 of the SNCF. The RATP lines have a total length of 630 km, there are 1043 bus stops. The SNCF routes are 720 kilometers long, of which 208 are bus stops.
