The Parque das Naçoes [ paɾkɯ dɐʃ nɐsõĩʃ ] to German Park of Nations, is a town ( freguesia ) of the Portuguese capital, Lisbon. It includes the former exhibition grounds of the Expo 98 The location right on the Tagus area is today largely under the management of state Parque Expo, SA and has evolved according to the World Expo to a new neighborhood with numerous cultural and sporting institutions. As part of local government reform it was raised on 29 September 2013 at a private church.

Site

Before deciding to remodel the area on the Tagus to the site of a World's Fair, were there mainly large industrial enterprises. By opting for the Expo 98 and its theme " The Oceans: A Heritage for the Future ", coordinated by the Portuguese Government and the Lisbon City Council, began the complete redevelopment. The political authorities also put on modern architecture for the Expo site, so as to form a counterpoint to the " Baixa de Lisboa " Lisbon's city center, and to establish the area as a new tourist destination. Reuse has been sought from the outset for all buildings.

The train station Lisbon Oriente or Gare do Oriente, designed by Santiago Calatrava, is the center of the Parque das Naçoes dar. From the station there are numerous train connections in almost all parts of the country, the Linha Vermelha the Lisbon Metro ensures a connection to the city center. With the construction of the third Tagus bridge south of the Parque das Naçoes and thus enabled new direct connection to Madrid and the Algarve is also gaining in importance the train station. West of the station, behind the shopping center, is the Pavilhão Atlântico, during the Expo as Utopia called Pavilhão. To the north are now the International exhibition halls, where the new Lisbon Exhibition Centre ( " Feira Internacional de Lisboa " ) einrichtete. To the World Expo site also includes the former Future Pavilion ( Pavilhão do Futuro ), which today is now the Lisbon Casino hosts, and the Knowledge Pavilion ( Pavilhão do Conhecimento ), now the Lisbon Museum of Science. The most famous buildings in the Parque das Naçoes also part of the Oceanarium, which has a wide variety of marine animals, such as sharks, rays, Caribbean fish and schools of tuna and sardines. The four corners of the Oceanarium take a Reproductions of certain regions. For example, there are a range Antarctica with penguins and artificial glaciers, but also a mangrove forest landscape.

Political development

The Parque das Naçoes and the surrounding buildings were part of the Freguesia Santa Maria dos Olivais Lisbon in a circle and in the communities Moscavide and Sacavém in the county Loures. With the progressive development of the area, there were increasing voices to extract the area and to form a new Freguesia named Oriente. In the course of municipal reform in Portugal, the Parque das Naçoes was raised on 29 September 2013 at a separate township.
