Paul Russo

Paul Russo ( born April 10, 1914 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, USA, † February 13, 1976 in Clearwater, Florida, USA) was an American race car driver.

Career

Paul Russo began his career like many American race car driver in the Midget Cars. He played his first race in 1934; In 1938 he won the AAA Eastern Midget Championship. He belonged to a group of racers, which became known as the " Chicago Gang". Also included Tony Bettenhausen and Duke Nalon to this community.

In the years 1940-1941, 1946 and 1954 and 1956-1959 and again in 1962 he was a total of 85 times in the AAA National Series and the USAC Series season. Three times, in 1950 in Springfield, 1951 in Detroit and 1952 in Williams Grove, he was victorious. His best finish in the 500 miles of Indianapolis, where he started 14 times, was the second rank in 1955, he had but to share with Tony Bettenhausen.

Since the 500 miles belonged from 1950 to 1960 the world championship of Formula 1, he was also in eight championship races there. It reached 8.5 points, one pole position and fastest lap.

Paul Russo was the brother of Joe Russo and the uncle of Eddie Russo. After his career, he worked as a representative for Accessories in Indianapolis. He died in 1976 during a visit to the Daytona 500
