Pavie

Pavie is a commune with 2402 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Gers, in the Midi -Pyrénées; it belongs to the district and also to the canton Also -Sud -Ouest.

History

Pavia was founded on May 5, 1281, shortly after Mirande by Bernhard IV, Count of Astarac, and Eustache de Beaumarchès as one of the many fortified towns, which was then developed in the southwest of France. The town's name is a reference to the Italian city of Pavia.
