Paweł Zagumny

Paweł Lech Zagumny (born 18 October 1977 in Jasło ) is a Polish volleyball player. He participated in four Olympic tournaments and became European Champion in 2009.

Career

Zagumnys parents Lech and Hanna were first division volleyball players. He began his own career at MKS MDK Warsaw. The club won the Polish championship of juniors and Zagumny was judged to be the best player device. Later he went to AZS Politechnika Warszawska, where he trained under his father's tutelage. In 1995 he moved with his father to Czarni Radom. However, since the Polish Volleyball Federation banned transfers of young players Zagumny not come in Radom first used. With the Polish Juniors, where he had his first appearance in 1993, he was in Israel in 1996 Junior European champion. In the same year he made his debut in the senior team. He participated in the Olympic Games in Atlanta, which ended for Poland in the group stage. In 1997, he won the junior team the Junior World Championships in Bahrain. With his new club Czarni Radom Zagumny was the following season Polish vice-champion. After the debut of Poland in World League, he participated in the 1998 World Cup, but when his team was able to win only one win. The next two seasons in the league ended Radom in positions four and six.

In 2000 Zagumny went to Italy to Edilbasso Padua. In Padua he immediately became a regular player, but his team was not in the league over the twelfth square. 2001 Poland played as host in Katowice for the first time in the finals of the World League. Then took Zagumny with the national team and at the European Championships in Ostrava part and came to fifth place. In the Italian league, he had to settle for the following season with 13th place. Due to an injury of the setter missed the 2002 World Cup. According to the eleventh place in the season 2002/ 03 he left the Italian league and returned to Poland. With AZS UWM Olsztyn his new club Zagumny 2004 reached the playoffs in third place and was finally after losing the final against Jastrzębski Węgiel Polish vice-champion. With the national team, he qualified for the Olympic tournament in Athens. There, Poland was defeated in the quarter-final against Brazil and were thus fifth.

In the season 2004/ 05 Olsztyn again reached the finals of the Polish Cup and lost time against Skra Belchatow. After the fourth place in the world league Zagumny could not participate in the European Championships because of an injury. That's why he was missing in the first league games of his club, which finished third at the end of the season. In the 2006 World Cup Poland came to the final, which Brazil won 3-0. Zagumny was named the best setter of the tournament. The next season in Poland ended for his club again in third place. With the national team, he traveled as fourth in the world league for the European Championship 2007. Poland came in the second round and managed there no victory. After Olsztyn became third in the Polish league in a row for the third time, Zagumny also took part in 2008 in the Olympic Games. The Poles were beaten in the quarterfinals Italy in the tiebreak.

2009 reached Zagumny Olsztyn with the national cup final against Skra Belchatow. In September, the national team was undefeated and won the final of the European Championship with a win against France the title. Zagumny received the individual award as the best player device. Then he left for the second time, the Polish League and played one year with Panathinaikos Athens. With the Greeks, he was cup winners and runners-up. At the World Cup 2010 Poland was eliminated in the second round. The setter returned to Poland and came to his present club Zaksa Kędzierzyn -Koźle. In the 2010/11 season he was with Zaksa in the league, the national cup competition and in the CEV Cup each second. Since he had taken a break in the national team after the 2010 World Cup and participating in the World League in 2011 refused, coach Andrea Anastasi not even nominated him for the European Championship. For World Cup Zagumny returned to the team that finished the competition in second place. After the third place in the league won the setter with the poles of the World League in 2012. Moreover he experienced in London his fourth Olympic tournament.

Private

Zagumny visited the Sport University in Warsaw. During his time in Olsztyn, he studied at the University of Warmia and Mazury. On July 19, 2003, he married oliwia Brochocką. His wife is also volleyball player. The couple has a daughter and a son.
