Peiligang culture

The Peiligang culture (Chinese裴李岗文化/裴李岗文化, Pinyin Péilǐgāng Wenhua ) is an early Neolithic culture in northern China. It is according to the radiocarbon dating method in the period from 5600-4900 BC dated and falls roughly in the time of Cishan culture, probably it is a precursor to the Yangshao culture.

The Peiligang - site was created in 1977 in Peiligang, Xinzheng county, Henan province, China discovered. The Peiligang culture was spread mainly in the center of Henan Province, but was discovered in northern and southern Henan.

To tools mainly polished stone tools were used, sometimes very fine work, including stone sickle with Serrated edge and stone shovel, and its famous shoe sole shaped four-footed saddle mill ( shímòpán石磨 盘) with grater floor ( mòbàng磨 棒), there are also hinged scraper ( guāxiāoqì刮削 器).

The pottery is mainly of xini Hongtao (细 泥 红陶) and jiashacu Hongtao夹砂 粗 红陶), all are hand made, the firing temperature was relatively low. The pottery usually have a plain surface, there are few polished or decorated comb needle ornaments. Typical vessel shapes are the three-legged clay pot ( bō钵) and the Zweiösenkrug ( shuāngěrhú双耳 壶), he seems to have been hung attached to a string.

At the time of Peiligang culture, the people were already living in permanent settlements. In the first place of the economy was agriculture; Pigs, dogs and other pets have been bred to supplement came collecting, fishing and hunting.

Peiligang - site

The Peiligang - site (裴 李 岗 遗址, Péilǐgāng yízhǐ, English Peiligang site) in Xinzheng (新郑 市) is since 2001 on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China ( 5-64 ).

Jiahu - site

The Jiahu - site (贾湖 遗址, Jiahu Yizhi, English Jiahu site) in a circle Wuyang (舞阳县), one of the earliest sites of this culture, since 2001 is also on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China ( 5-65 ).
