Pembrokeshire-Coast-Nationalpark

The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park ( Welsh: Parc Cenedlaethol Arfordir Penfro ) is a national park along the Pembrokeshire coast in Wales. He is the only national park in the United Kingdom, which is located mainly on the coast. He is known for large breeding colonies of many species of seabirds.

Construction of the park

The park with a total area of 620 km ² have been around since 1952 It is divided into four areas.:

A well-known natural phenomenon is occurring in the strait between the coast and the offshore island of Ramsey tidal wave, the so-called Bitches. It occurs depends on the tidal range on every 12.5 hours and can be surfed with a kayak or surfboard.

Pembrokeshire Coast Path

The Pembrokeshire Coast Path is a hiking trail. The path leads from St. Dogmaels in the west to the east of Saundersfoot Pembrokeshire. The path leads to the most well-maintained trails almost always right on the coast, so that you can gaze out over the vast sea all day. The way to cope in twelve days on foot, where it is also possible to go only individual stages. Accommodations are available on the way in the form of campsites, Bed & Breakfast and hostels available.

Historic attractions in the park are seasonal:

  • Castell Henllys, Iron Age Fort, with replicas in the vicinity of Newport.
  • Carew Castle & Tidal Mill (tidal mill), at Carew near Pembroke.
  • Upton Castle gardens, near Pembroke.
