Pěnčín (Liberec District)

Pěnčín ( German Pientschin ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located five kilometers west of Turnov and belongs to Okres Liberec.

Geography

The place is situated on the northern edge of the Isertales. To the south runs the route to the R 10 between Mlada Boleslav and Turnov. Through the neighboring village Doubí the railway line from Turnov leads to Liberec.

Neighboring towns are Vitanovice, Albrechtice, Čičavy and Kamenec in the north, and Doubí Lažany in the northeast, and Ohrazenice Čtveřín in the east, in the southeast Přepeře, Příšovice in the south, Svijany the southwest, Svijanský Újezd ​​in the west and Soběslavice in the northwest.

History

Pěnčín was first documented in 1383. At that time the monastery Hradiště had acquired large estates in the area and settled the land. Also Pěnčín was part of the monastic possessions, which was managed by the monastery Svijany. However, part of the town formed a free basic rule and was owned by a local gentry family whose seat was the stronghold Pěnčín.

After the destruction of the monastery by the Hussites on Emperor Sigismund his henchman Johann von Wartenberg on Ralsko 1420 a large part of the reign Hradiště, which included Pěnčín. And when Jan Čapek ze Sán 1425 Turnov occupied and subsequently monastery Hradiště made ​​to his seat, even Pěnčín was one of the places controlled by him.

1547 Ferdinand I let all their possession of participating in the uprising Adam von Wartenberg move in and the gentlemen was Johann von Oppersdorff. Pěnčín belonged together with Střížovice and Vitanovice to the newly formed dominion Svijany who received Jaroslav von Wartenberg. After his execution, bought on July 27, 1622 Albrecht of Wallenstein, the rule and left it in 1624 to his cousin Maximilian von Waldstein. 1814 were the princes of Rohan owner of the village. Since 1850, Pěnčín is an independent municipality.

The inhabitants of the place lived mainly from agriculture, which plays an important role because of the south-facing slope of the fruit growing.

Basic settlement units are Albrechtice, Červenice, Kamenec, Kameni, Pěnčín, Střížovice, Vitanovice and Zásada.

The municipality is divided into the Katastralbezirke Kameni, Pěnčín and Střížovice u Pěnčína.
