Peralada

Peralada is a Catalan municipality in the province of Girona, northeastern Spain. It is located about seven kilometers northeast of Figueres, the capital of the comarca of Alt Empordà.

Attractions

The Castell de Peralada, which was built in the 14th century and was the seat of Rocabertí family, now houses a casino, also a local wine and champagne brand is named after the castle. The castle complex includes a 33,000 square meter park, which was designed from the year 1877 by the landscape architect François Duvilliers; Since May 2011, the castle park is open for public viewing on a guided tour.

The Convent del Carme, a monastery of the 13th century, the houses three museums: the Museu del Vi ( wine museum), the Museu del Vidre ( Glass Museum ) and the Bliblioteca Peralada ( Library of Peralada ). The latter includes more than 80,000 volumes, including a large collection of 1000 volumes editions of Don Quixote.

In the historic center is the monastery Museum Sant Doménec, with a Romanesque cloister from the 12th century.
