Pétanque World Championships

World Championships in precision sport pétanque organized by the Fédération Internationale de Pétanque et Jeu Provençal ( FIPJP ). The first World Championships for seniors was held in Brussels, Belgium in 1959. Senior World Championships

The Senior World Championship Pétanque is not a men's World Cup. At their women, young people and espoir can participate.

Until 1997, allowed each participating country up to 2 teams of 3 players use ( the host country and the country of the defending champions were allowed to compete with 3 teams).

As of 1998, only one team per country was ( defending champion and host country but 2 ) are admitted. A team consisted of 4 players from now on.

First time in 1977 took a German team to a Pétanque World Championship. Ebbi Toepfer, Karsten Köhler and Olaf thimble came from Bad Godesberg and Freiburg.
