Peter J. Ratcliffe

Sir John Peter Ratcliffe FRS ( born May 14, 1954 in Morecambe, Lancashire ) is a British nephrologist and professor at the University of Oxford.

Ratcliffe discovered that there are in all cells of the human body and in all animals on Earth - a system are that the supply measures with oxygen and controls - even among those who have no heart or blood vessels. It is an enzyme system that a protein with oxygen labeled themselves - the hypoxia -induced factor (HIF ).

Life

Ratcliffe earned in 1978 at the University of Cambridge a Bachelor of Medicine ( MB), specializing in nephrology. In 1987 he received his doctorate with a thesis on ischemic and non- ischemic causes of acute renal failure. Although the cell biology and molecular biology zuwandt to Ratcliffe remained clinical medicine connected: he is both a professor of internal medicine (since 1996 ) and head of the Laboratory for Hypoxia Research at the University of Oxford in Oxford, United Kingdom.
