Peter Mankoc (Vienna 2008)

Peter Mankoc ( born July 4, 1978 in Ljubljana) is a Slovenian swimmer.

Career

Mankoc participated in four Olympics, part, 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008, where he was able to achieve in 2004 in Athens with 13th place on 100 m freestyle and 2008 in Beijing with 10th place on 100 m butterfly his best results.

He also participated from 2001 to 2007 at four swimming world championships. His best results were the seventh rank 2003 in Barcelona over 200m medley and the eighth rank 2007 in Melbourne 100 m butterfly.

In the European Swimming Championships 2008 in Eindhoven Mankoc won the silver medal in the 100 m butterfly. He is a three-time Short Course World Champion and three-time Short Course World Championship runner.

He is best known for his appearance at the Short Course European Championships. Twelve Short Course European Championships he won in 28 finals 18 medals, of which ten of gold. He is known worldwide as the only swimmer who was able to defend his title at an international competition of a discipline nine times. Between 2000 and 2008 he won nine gold medals on the 100 meters individual medley. Only at the Short Course European Championships 2009 in Istanbul he was beaten over this distance, when he won the bronze medal.

On 15 December 2001, he was able to win with a new world record for the 100 meters individual medley at the European Short Course Championships in Antwerp. It was not until almost a year later managed Rupp Thomas Rath, these relieve him again.

In the Short Course World Championships 2008 in Manchester, he was behind Ryan Lochte with new European record over the same distance runner.
