Piero Toscani

Piero Toscani ( born July 28, 1904 in Milan, † May 23, 1940 ) was an Italian boxer and Olympic champion in the middleweight division by 1928.

Career

At the European Championships in Berlin in 1927, he reached the quarterfinals where he retired against the German Wilhelm Maier. In August 1928 he started as one of seven Italians at the 9th Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. He defeated in the second round while the Danes Ingvar Ludvigsen, in the quarterfinals of the Swedish Academy Kjällander, in the semifinals of the Belgians Leonard Steyaert and the final January Heřmánek from Czechoslovakia. In addition, his compatriots Vittorio Tamagnini and Carlo Orlandi also won gold in the bantamweight and featherweight.

From 1930 to 1934 he played a short Profiboxkarriere with eight fighting in Italy, France and Austria, which he lost five and drawn two ended. On 1 December 1931, he was defeated early in the third round against Marcel Thil. The only victory of his professional career, he celebrated on January 27, 1933 against Mario Casadei, who boxed at the European Championship against Jupp Besselmann in May 1942.
