Pierre-Évariste Leblanc

Sir Pierre- Évariste Leblanc, KCMG, QC ( born August 10, 1853 in Saint -Martin, Québec, † October 18, 1918 in Sillery, Quebec ) was a Canadian politician. He was from 1882 to 1908, with interruptions Member of the National Assembly of Quebec. From 1915 until his death he served as Vice- Governor of the Province of Quebec.

Biography

Leblanc studied law at the Université de Laval and McGill University. In 1876 he was admitted as an attorney and was then active in Montreal in the firm Leblanc et Brossard. In October 1882 he joined the Parti conservateur du Québec at a by-election in Laval and entered the National Assembly of Quebec. Six months later, the election was canceled due to corrupt machinations and Leblanc was defeated in the repetition in June 1883. Since, however, the opposition candidate had been accused of corruption, this choice also had to be canceled.

In July 1884 Leblanc moved again to the provincial legislature. In 1886 he succeeded in re-election, but the election in April 1888 was canceled again due to election fraud. Nevertheless Leblanc took a month later and was successful. After the elections of 1892 he took over the office of the Speaker, which he held for five years. From 1905, Leblanc was party leader until 1908 he lost his seat in Parliament. Governor General Prince Arthur sworn him on February 12, 1915 as Lieutenant Governor of Quebec. This representative office he held until his death.
