Pieter Cort van der Linden

Pieter Cort van der Linden (* May 14th 1846 in The Hague, † July 15, 1935 ) was a Dutch politician. He was liberal, but not party bound.

The lawyer was from 1897 to 1901 Minister of Justice and later of August 29, 1913 to September 9, 1918 Dutch Interior Minister and Prime Minister. He could achieve that the Netherlands were not drawn into the First World War into it. Under his rule, it came to the so-called pacificatie ( peace ) between the confessional and non-confessional parties in two important questions. The greater part of the non- confessional (especially liberals ) voted to government funding of private schools, which called for the confessional. The latter in turn favor in return, the introduction of universal suffrage (initially only for men, 1919 for women). For this, the Constitution was amended.

1915, the honorary title of Minister of State, he was awarded.
