PÃsek District
The Okres Pisek ( Pisek district ) is a district in South Bohemia, Czech Republic.
Numerous archaeological finds testify to the presence of people already in the Middle Stone Age. One can find settlements of the Celts and Slavs, with the largest part of the district was inhabited until the 14th century.
The hilly landscape shapes the face of the region with the highest mountain Kozlov (708 meters). At 1127 km ², there are many pine forests and large areas of water (4.6 % of the area ). The largest river is the Vltava River and its tributary, the Otava, which flows under the Zvíkov in the Vltava River. A large role, especially for rest, play the Orlik dam. 70 thousand people live in 75 municipalities, of which 67 % in the five cities ( Pisek, Milevsko, Protivín, Mirotice, Mirovice ).
In the district there are mainly the following industries: mechanical engineering, textile industry, electronics, wood and metal processing. An important role is also played by the livestock (cattle, pigs, poultry ) and the cultivation of grain.
In addition, tourism also plays an important role. In addition to many international festivals ( South Bohemian Music Festival, Nocturne in Pisek, International Film Festival, Small theater festivals, international folklore festival, international festival of student films and others), there is also the possibility to many biking and hiking trails, but also on the water to discover the nature.
