Plan-d'Orgon

Plan Orgon is a commune with 2981 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bouches -du -Rhône in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

The municipality is located in the northeast of the departments of Bouches -du -Rhône near the river Durance. It is located five kilometers south-west of Cavaillon, 24 km south-east of Avignon. In the village cross the D99 ( Saint- Remy- Cavaillon ) and N7 (Avignon -Aix -en- Provence).

History

Around 550 BC began peasants to settle here. In the 13th century settled in the region Templar laid the then existing marshes. The church, originally a relocation of Orgon, grew rapidly in the second half of the 19th century. Took place on July 27, 1923 after several attempts the separation of Orgon.

Economy and infrastructure

The place is known for the large cross in its center, in which cross the trunk road from Avignon to Aix -en- Provence and the Département street of Saint -Rémy to Cavaillon.
