Plantet

Plantet is a red grape variety.

The new variety was created under the breeding number S 5455, which was originally S 5163 and S 880 described as a cross between the Seibel vines. We now know that it is a cross between Seibel 4461 and a preliminary intersection of Vitis berlandieri and Jacquez.

The crossing of the hybrid vine was carried out by the French breeder Albert Seibel, numerous interspecific varieties bred from 1888 to the 1930s in the fight against phylloxera. It is one of the good quality of the hybrid vines and was, until the 1950s in France very successful. At its height, nearly 28,000 acres of vineyards were planted with the variety Plantet in France alone. Despite the general prohibition of hybrid vines by the EU Plantet vine was still tolerated, were so identified in the 1998 survey nevertheless still 2,198 hectares under vine. According to a decree of 18 April 2008, the vine again is one of the officially authorized varieties for commercial cultivation, as shares of the noble vine Vitis vinifera contained in the genome of the plant. In 2007, the vineyard was raised 1,170 acres.,

The early maturing and grew strong variety is pilzresisent (powdery mildew, downy mildew and gray mold of grapevine ) and very frost resistant. This explains their popularity at the North American east coast in the state of New York ( → Viticulture in New York). The largest holdings of France are found in the colder climates of the Loire. The variety Plantet delivers dark red wines with a more or less intense raspberry flavor. For the European taste this flavor is to be evaluated rather than unpleasant.

Because of their good Pilzrestistenz the variety moved back into the spotlight. In Switzerland, there is again a trial cultivation. Pierre Landot took advantage of the variety of new breeding Landal Noir.
