Podbrezová

Podbrezová (Hungarian Zólyombrezó ) is a town in central Slovakia. It lies at the foot of the Slovak Ore Mountains and the Low Tatras in the valley landscape Horehronské podolie, 10 km of Brezno and 35 km from Banska Bystrica.

The municipality was created in 1960 through the merger of six formerly independent places Vajsková, Skalica, Chvatimech, Štiavnička, Podbrezová and Lopej and took on the name of the main town. ( Pod ) Brezová (literally " lying under the Brezová " ) originated in the 19th century in the corridors of Lopej order, founded in 1840 smelter. For the first time officially Brezová appears officially in 1863 on behalf Lopejvajszkovabrezova and is named after the mountain.

The major steel plant was after 1918 due to the changed economic situation again and again just before the complete closure, but it came to strategic reasons never. 1939 the factory was incorporated under dubious circumstances to the Reich Works Hermann Goering; after 1945 it came in the communist planned system to considerable enlargements to provide mainly the production of pipes on a broad basis.
