Popielów, Opole Voivodeship

Popielów ( German Alt Poppelau ) is a village and capital of the homonymous country church in the Opole Voivodeship in Poland. It is located in powiat Opolski, about 23 km north- west of the county town of Opole. The Oder is a natural boundary to the south of the municipality. Almost half of the area Popielóws occupies a natural park ( Stobrawski Landscape Park ), which extends far into the powiat Opolski.

History

In the plebiscite in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921 voted in 1548 voters to remain in Germany and 517 for Poland. Old Poppelau remained with the German Reich. 1933 lived 2863 inhabitants in the town. In 1939 the place 2946 inhabitants. By 1945, the place was in the district of Opole.

Parts of the church today were located in the district of Opole and in the Lower Silesia region Brieg.

In 1945 the previously German city of Poland and is now called officially Popielów and the Silesian Voivodeship was connected. After the war, only a relatively small proportion of the local population has been displaced, which still to this day an indigenous population has received in the community. 1945, the place the provisional County I ( Slask Opolski, Opole Silesia ) was assigned. In 1946 it was the former Silesian Voivodeship. Since their graduation in 1950, he is part of the Opole Voivodeship. At county level, the place came 1999 on the re-established powiat Opolski.

Population

To date, three population groups in the community life: Poland, German ( 19.7%) and Silesians (2.5 %) ( results of the 2002 census ).

In the census of 2011, there were more than 20 percent of German in the community, thus it has the right to introduce the German language as the second official language and has the guaranteed right to introduce German names.
